11th November 2023
Depart Country of home to Kilimanjaro International Airport, Tanzania
Day2
12th November 2023
Arrive Kilimanjaro International Airport, Tanzania and transfer to hotel – Chanya Lodge, Moshi (45 minutes from airport.) Dinner & overnight stay (Twin sharing basis whilst at Chanya lodge)
Day3
13th November 2023
Day at leisure including pre mountain and event brief. Equipment and clothing check – pack for the mountain. Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner included. Overnight at Chanya lodge.
Day4
14th November 2023
Drive 1.5hrs from Chanya lodge to Machame park gate. Start climb at Machame Gate (1,800m) through mountain forest. Trekking time: 5-7hrs approximately 9km. Overnight at Machame Camp (3,000m) Full board during mountain phase. Twin sharing in a 3-man mountain tent.
Day5
15th November 2023
Trek through grassy moorland and heather. Crossing through Shira plateau. Trekking time: 5-7hrs approximately 7km. Overnight at Shira camp (3,845m)
Day6
16th November 2023
Continue through the heather and moorland, crossing scree sloes and a river valley. Trekking time: 6-8hrs approximately 10km. Overnight at Barranco camp (3,960m)
Day7
17th November 2023
This is an additional day for acclimatisation where you will enter the alpine desert zone and climb up the steep Barranco Wall. Trekking time: 3-5hrs approximately 6km. Overnight at Karanga Camp (4,035m)
Day8
18th November 2023
A short trek on compacted scree and steep areas over rocky slabs through the alpine desert. Trekking time: 3-4hrs approximately 4km. Overnight at Barafu Camp (4,650m)
Day9
19th November 2023
20th November 2023) Rest day at Barafu Camp to prepare for RACE DAY!
Day10
20th November 2023
20th November 2023 Day 10: 20th November Around mid-night, walk 30 mins to the start tine. Race as fast as you can on the World’s Highest Vertical Kilometre (3.54km distance with 1,000m vertical climb reaching 5,895m altitude) to the summit Uhuru Peak, via Stella Point to then retrace your steps as fast as possible back down to Barafu Camp. At Barafu camp you will then continue to complete the World’s Highest Marathon (42.2km distance with a total 1,836m vertical climb, including a downhill of 3,700m) and through to the World’s Highest Ultra Marathon distance (53.6km distance with a total 1,836m vertical climb, including a downhill of 4,829m) finishing at Marangu gate. After arriving at the finish line enjoy a buffet and BBQ celebration and transfer to hotel for a well-earned shower, dinner and rest’)
