The ALTITUDE OCR World Championships will also include the ALTITUDE OCR PARA participants who will also be competing for gold, silver, bronze medals in their categories. ALTITUDE OCR PARA is accessible for all without any limitations on who can sign up. 

Veterans, amateur and professional para-athletes representing their Nation and chosen charity are all welcome. We believe nothing is impossible and that all humans can achieve anything collectively and individually.

ITINERARY

Day 1 (31st October 2023) – 

Depart Country of home to Kilimanjaro International Airport, Tanzania.

Day 2 (1st November 2023) – 

Arrive Kilimanjaro International Airport, Tanzania and transfer to hotel – Chanya Lodge, Moshi (45minutes from airport.) Dinner and overnight stay (Twin sharing basis whilst at Chanya Lodge)

Day 3 (2nd November 2023)

Day at leisure including pre mountain and event brief. Equipment and clothing check – pack for the mountain. Breakfast, Lunch and dinner included. Overnight at Chanya Lodge.

Day 4 (3rd November 2023)

Drive 1.5hrs from Chanya Lodge to Machame Park Gate. Start climb at Machame Gate (1,800M) through mountain forest. Trekking time: 5-7hrs approximately 9km. Overnight at Machame Camp (3,000m) full board during mountain phase. Twin sharing in a 3-man mountain tent.

Day 5 (4th November 2023)

Trek through grassy moorland and heather. Crossing through Shira Plateau. Trekking time: 5-7hrs approximately 7km. Overnight at Shira Camp (3,845m).

Day 6 (5th November 2023) – 

Continue through the heather and moorland, crossing scree slopes and a river valley. Trekking time: 6-8hrs approximately 10km. Overnight at Barranco Camp (3,960m)

Day 7 (6th November 2023) –

This is an additional day for acclimatisation where you will enter the alpine desert zone and climb up the steep Barranco Wall. Trekking time: 3-5hrs approximately 6km. Overnight at Karanga Camp (4,035m)

Day 8 (7th November 2023)  – 

A short trek on compacted scree and steep areas over rocky slabs through the alpine forest desert. Trekking time: 3-4hrs approximately 4km. Overnight at Barafu Camp (4,650m)

Day 9 (8th November 2023)

Around Mid-night, start for the summit to stella point (5,740m) and then continue to Uhuru Peak (5,895m). From Uhuru Peak you will descend into the crater (approximately 1hr). Move through the 100m long obstacle course, descend from Stella Point to Barafu Camp (4,650m). Start run phase from Barafu Camp to Mweka Gate (1,630m). Run distance 20km. Cross finish line and transfer to Chanya Lodge to freshen up and have dinner.

Day 10 (9th November 2023) – 

Rest day at Chanya Lodge to get ready for VIP awards dinner and post event party.

Day 11 (10th November 2023) – 

Check out of Chanya Lodge, transfer to Kilimanjaro airport and fly home.

The recognised Standard Completion Criteria for World’s Highest OCR and Altitude OCR World Championships

Finishers must complete phase one by Summitting the highest course point on the Mountain which was 5,895m – Uhuru Peak.

Finishers must complete phase two: The Obstacle Course as follows;

  • Each competitor travels individually and unassisted.
  • Course is between a pre-determined start line and pre-determined finish line with a minimum distance of 100m.
  • Complete at least 50% of the obstacles.
  • Mandatory obstacle first attempt on each obstacle.
  • Maximum 3 attempts on each obstacle.
  • Compulsory 3-minute medical check after each obstacle.
  • If the medical director/staff confirm the participant is not medically fit to carry on, they will need to descend immediately due to safety event rules which are in the best interest of every participant.

Finishers must complete phase three: Descending the Mountain unassisted over the finish line.
Competitors must abide by the general competition criteria specified in the FISO Competition Rules Master Source Document. Race number and Uniform Rules do not apply.
